left with pictures – secretly ep artwork

Posted in illustrations, news by Tom on June 3rd, 2008

Organ Grinder records are releasing the new Left With Pictures EP (titled “Secretly”) in August and here is the artwork I provided for the CD. Very few people I know continue to buy CDs now so I’ve also tried to design an original and interesting package. If it all works well, I’ll post some pictures of the final product here – hopefully it’ll be a nice ‘thing’ that people just want to own. I’m convinced (but may be alone in this) that the success of downloads and torrent sites shouldn’t mean the death of CDs/Vinyl… it just means that the artwork has to try harder to convince the punter to part with their cash. Anyway, here’s the cover of the EP:

Finally, a poster idea:

Thoughts? Criticism? Unending praise?

I love it! That will make a beautiful CD. I hardly ever buy CDs anymore but the album art is still important to me, even if I only ever see it as small thumbnail in iTunes.

Thanks Jonathan, I’m really hoping that the artwork conveys a fair idea of the sound of the EP – keep an eye out for the release later in the year!

I really like the artwork, though i too never buy cds anymore i still like to have all the album artwork to flick through in my music player.

Just an idea but since not many people buy physical albums now days i think the artwork for albums should be animated gifs. For example the title text “Left with pictures” could flicker and pop a bit to make it stand out more, the girls fingers playing with her hair could be subtly animated and the trees could maybe move a little in the wind. I’m sure you could think up some much more interesting ways to animate the picture.
